"Weird Al" Yankovic among the celebrities joining the Muppets on Disney World's upcoming Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ride

Disney just announced details about its upcoming ride in Disney World's (Orlando, FL) Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets, in Disney's Hollywood Studios. The roller coaster is currently undergoing a redesign, from Aerosmith to Muppet theming, and is scheduled to open on May 26.

There will be celebrity cameos incorporated into the attraction, including Awkwafina, Travis Barker, Wayne Brady, Yvette Nicole Brown, Darren Criss, Neil Patrick Harris, John Stamos, Danny Trejo, and "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Al is a friend, so I asked him how he felt about his participation in the new ride. He told me:

"Obviously I love the Muppets and I love Disney theme parks, so when they asked me if I would entertain the people waiting in line, I immediately said yes. And then when they told me I could do it via pre-recorded video instead of being there in person all day long – even better!"

The first iteration of the ride, called Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, had been a very popular attraction since it opened in 1999. It was an indoor coaster that began with an acceleration from 0 to 57 mph in 2.8 seconds, with the conceit that you've been invited by Aerosmith to their concert, and you're riding a fast limo through nighttime Hollywood to get there.

In 2024, the long-overdue retheming was officially announced, with the Muppets chosen as the ride's new stars. It's expected that the ride layout and mechanisms will stay the same, but with a new storyline. You'll be touring The Electric Mayhem's recording studio, G-Force Records, on VIP passes, when the band is late for a concert across town. You'll board Muppet Labs' newest technological marvels, Lengthy Immediate Motion Objects (L.I.M.O.s), to speed off to the show.
