Taco Bell sees minor rule-breaking turn into maximum force in a flash

After witnessing the grave offense of putting soda in a free water cup, a Taco Bell employee allegedly pulled a gun and started blasting — turning a sub-50-cent pour into felony assault, police say.

According to police, three women entered the restaurant and asked for a cup of water. Investigators said one of the women then filled the cup at a soda fountain, which led to a verbal argument with an employee, identified as 20-year-old D'Mari Jy'Quan Patterson. (WPEC)

Cellphone video taken by a witness shows Patterson yelling at the women as tempers flared. Police said the sound of a firearm being racked can be heard on the video just before a shot rang out inside the dining area.

One woman fell to the floor after being shot, while another suffered a graze wound, investigators said. A third woman ran out of the restaurant. Police allege Patterson followed her outside and fired another shot in her direction. That round missed but shattered a window near the entrance.

I wonder if Mr. Patterson regrets his dramatic overreaction.
