Indie Nazi-hunting game looks a bit like a playable Inglorious Basterds

With Wolfenstein on ice for the foreseeable future after that weird 80s one, the very specific "cathartic Nazi-killing simulator" crown seems to be up for grabs. As seems to be the trend with gaming lately, however, now is the time of the indie game, where teams you've never heard of are delivering sleeper hits left and right. Take, for instance, Nekome: Nazi Hunter, the latest challenger to Wolfenstein's title.

Although it also explores an alt-history, this one focuses less on speculative dieselpunk technology and more on one very, very angry guy in suspenders. The devs have cited Tarantino's seminal Nazi-slaying work Inglorious Basterds as an inspiration, which should be obvious from the amount of blood on display if nothing else. It looks like an uncomplicated good time focused mainly around some deservedly brutal combat, which is about all I can ask of a game like this.

Admittedly, the trailer's callout of "the fascist wave taking over the world" hits a little close to home.
