A Bob Ross painting titled Mountain Summit is headed to auction June 30, and the proceeds will benefit Ball State PBS, the Muncie station that helped turn Ross's soft-spoken landscape magic into public television immortality.
Ross created Mountain Summit for season 13 of The Joy of Painting. Net proceeds from the Bonhams Skinner auction will benefit Ball State PBS, where Ross filmed 30 of the show's 31 seasons at WIPB in Muncie. That local PBS station did not just host a beloved painting show; it became the little Midwestern engine room for one of television's most enduring portals to calm.
Bob Ross made art feel free, which is why it is funny and terrible that owning it may cost a fortune.
