"Mexican Batman" tapes suspected thieves to lamp posts

A Mexican vigilante is chasing down suspected thieves in Lagos de Moreno and duct-taping them to lampposts. He has acquired the unimaginative nickname "Batman" in local media reports; police would like him to stop.

Many of them were reportedly sporting moustaches, cat whiskers, and had "ratero", the Spanish word for "thief", scribbled on their faces by the anonymous crime hunter. Some of them also appeared to have been beaten up, with bloody faces and visible cuts.

A viral photo on social media shows two youngsters taped to a lamp post.

The first incident was on June 13, with four more since. Prosecutors are evaluating both the thefts and the unlawful restraints; no-one has been arrested.
