David Tennant shares his Criterion Closet picks

Ah, the Criterion Closet, that hallowed battleground where famous cinephiles go to out-taste each other. I've dreamed of walking into those shelved walls to flex my taste on the plebeians for a long time — why yes, 'Bloody Muscle Body Builder From Hell' is pure art — but I suppose I'll live vicariously through David Tennant instead.

As Scotland's national treasure and the holder of more lifetime achievement awards than your cat has lives, it feels genuinely shocking that Tennant hasn't had the chance to flex his refined taste yet. Now, though, all is as it should be.

Not for nothing, but it's very funny to me that the best-regarded Doctor Who actor picks a film about time travel right off the bat. His final pick, however — 12 Angry Men, which he describes as his favorite movie ever made — has just proven to me that I've been right to look up to him all this time. What a treat indeed.
