Illustrator Michæl Paukner, whose poster art I've blogged a few times now, has started a terrific series of images paying tribute to the über-kitschy German science fiction television show Space Patrol (Raumpatrouille). Shown here, the Orion 7 craft. If you're unfamiliar with the show, this fan-site is a great place to start. Video clips and links to past appreciations of the TV series on Boing Boing after the jump.

Below, the opening sequence of an episode:

And here, a remix of the theme song with clips from various episodes:

The Wikipedia link is incorrect, pointing to another SF TV series also called Space Patrol.

I believe this would be the correct link to the German show in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raumpatrouille_orion

If I remember correctly wasn’t the last video on MST3K?

Whenever I see someone post a clip of the crazy dance routine from this, they always omit the funniest one. The dancers all form an outward-facing circle, lock arms, squat halfway down with knees akimbo and waddle in group rotation. I think they even flap their intertwined elbows.

    Good stuff!

I disagree that Raumpatrouille is “ueber kitsch.” It is actually a rather clever show. It just looks cheesy.
    Love the poster.

Orion 7 is a whole lot better than Orion Vista.

The Peter Thomas soundtrack is fantastic (and available on CD). I wish the DVD was available in the states, but appears to be PAL only.
