Here's the latest mask from Ukrainian steampunk leather virtuosos Bob Basset, entitled "'Raptor' Fighter Pilot Mask."

"Raptor" Fighter Pilot Mask. "??щн?к" Ма?ка ????та ??треб?те?я.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Reminds me of Moebius’s Saudakar concepts.

And, it’s on eBay right now:

I’ve bought many things from this artist and they never fail to amaze!

Felix, I would think air ducts to areas just under the occipital would allow for more freedom of movement in the head. With the gas masks I own, if you look at the inside it doesn’t matter what it looks like on the outside, it’s where the piping all runs to. As far as the chest connector’s they’re more around collar bone level than the nipples and again, it’s all about the ducts in the suit the person is wearing. Now if they plug into the back of the head then it goes slightly against the Steampunk aesthetic since in a fighter jet that wouldn’t be too good of a location since their heads will be rocking back and forth crushing the tubes and that’s bad form. :)

There’s no denying that this would make a brilliant doctor who monster.

I like the face and quality of the leather a lot. Although…

He’s designed ventilation from your nipples to the back of your head? I know this is art but that’s quite a disconnect from reality.

The buckle on the top looks kind of dumb too (see side views) – it ruins the profile. Why’s it even needed?

It’d be good if the lace ends tidied up somewhere, and if the back fastenings looked like you could tie them off without help from someone standing behind.

For art that’s delighting in functional looking details I think these are valid criticisms.

I thought the Raptor used a JHMCS? :D
