Sean T. Collins of The Comics Journal interviewed Uno Moralez, a 44-year-old cartoonist from Bashkortostan. His black-and-white work has an old-timey Macpaint look. Check out his creepy loops.
Collins: I would describe your work as horror. Do you?
Moralez: I don’t think my drawings are frightening. I like to think they are mysterious.
Collins: I’ll agree to the second part of that response. Your drawings are mysterious, since they are both complex and specific in a way that invites us to imagine how the characters and creatures in them got to that point. For example, your recent comic about the small man who steals a jewel from a sleeping woman’s forehead ends with an image of his jewel collection – it seems this is something he has done many times before, and we are left to fill in the blanks. Do you consider the story behind the images when you make them?
Moralez: My short stories derive from images which don’t fit in a one single image, plotwise. This is not exactly a comic, that’s why I draw only key scenes leaving out details. And then reader’s imagination starts to work. That is important.
When I’m not writing here on BoingBoing (or anywhere else, for that matter), I also play guitar and sing in a rock band called The Roland High Life. Today we announced our new record, Songs About Comic Books and Mid-30s Malaise, and released the first single, which is kind of a Cars / Green Day mashup […]
Keanu Reeves co-wrote a new comic book series called BRZRKR with co-writer Matt Kindt (Folklords, Bang!) and artist Alessandro Vitti (Marvel’s Secret Warriors). It’s apparently “for mature readers” because, y’know, it’s “brutally violent,” according to the Boom! Studios announcement: The man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence…even at […]
On the surface, the civilian identities of Bruce “Batman” Wayne and Clark “Superman” Kent both look pretty similar. They’re both generically handsome white dudes with dark hair and chiseled jaws. At times, they’ve even imitated each other, in order to help the other maintain plausible deniability around their respective secret identities. Comic artist Greg Capullo, […]
Time management and self-motivation, the ability to stay on task and achieve in the office or when you’re working with home, is the true test of any person’s professional mettle. While that’s easier said than done, those skills can be taught and developed as you’ll find in The 2020 Work From Anywhere Hacker Bundle. The […]
It’s easy to be instantly dismissive about most Bluetooth speakers, especially small travel-sized units. Over the past few years, makers of every shape, size, and variety have started pounding out Bluetooth speakers, many barely able to sound much better than your smartphone speaker, let alone provide the bass and volume heft of legitimate portable speakers […]
Did you know that you are free to change your auto insurance at any time? Maybe you do know that, but don’t want to deal with the inconvenience of changing providers. Or maybe you simply already think you have a great deal. The fact is that your car insurance is one of those expenses that […]
