Andy Thurlow was an incredible inventor who made hundreds of original musical instruments. Sadly, he passed away in March 2022. Here is a documentary about his recent inventions. Thurlow created an Anarchestra; an orchestra of 200 unique musical instruments. Thurlow composed an entire collection of work for them. He was a musician, composer, and theorist who wanted to "liberate players from preconceived notions of music and music performance."
Thurlow welcomed all to join his Anarchestra, and thousands of people have played on his instruments.
From the 10 Forward museum website:
Anarchestra exists as a type of new folk music: a philosophy of Instrument making and playing that removes the distinction between musicians and non-musicians and is open to all. Anarchestra does not just invite everyone to play music; it asks people to take an active role in defining what music is, both for themselves and for society.
