People have called asymmetrical multiplayer slasher-versus-survivors game Dead by Daylight a horror-themed Fortnite for its seeming reliance on endless crossovers. (It's me. I'm people.) Today, it earns that title once again as it welcomes another slasher icon into its roster, joining other such famous genre figures as Michael Meyers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, and actor Nicolas Cage.
Jason Voorhees, however, joins a select group of DbD killers with an additional distinction: previously launching his own Dead by Daylight-esque asymmetrical multiplayer game that inevitably tanked, leading the IP holders to give up and license the character to DbD anyway. The house always wins.
Notably, Friday the 13th is not actually named anywhere within Dead by Daylight or its marketing materials, likely as a result of the copyright tangles so many of these legacy slashers are mired in.
