In Jieyang, in China's Guangdong province, a farmer recently dug up this incredible and bizarre yam that had grown into a strikingly realistic hand-like shape. The farmer in the video holds his hand up to the yam for comparison, and it's uncanny. The detail of the yam-hand makes it feel more like a supernatural interference than a mere coincidence.
The tuber has five distinct, finger-like protrusions, complete with ridges that resemble knuckles and nail beds. Its unusually precise shape makes it look more like a carved object than something grown underground. I had to watch the video a handful of times to take it all in.
The discovery quickly circulated on social media, where it drew fascination and curiosity. According to reports, someone offered 8,000 yuan (around $1,150) for the yam, but the farmer declined to sell it. I hope he has preserved it somehow, so he can live alongside the yam-hand forever.
