A South Carolina cop was so infuriated by another officer microwaving fish that he aimed his service firearm at him. Michael Debiase, 46, was fired, arrested, and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigated the incident, reports ABC News, which took place at Myrtle Beach Police Department. According to the arrest warrant, the now-former Detective Debiase confronted a patrolman "warming up fish in the microwave, causing an odor in the office" on May 30, and "drew and pointed his department-issued handgun" at him.
The other officer wasn't named; Debiase was quickly fired. There's no word on the species of fish or the dish.
He was placed on administrative leave immediately following the incident while investigations were conducted by the Myrtle Beach Police Department's Office of Professional Standards and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Based on information learned during the Office of Professional Standards investigation, several policy violations were identified.
Cop Here's WBTV with the vox pop:
Charles Devine, a Myrtle Beach resident, said while workplace disagreements happen, the allegations go too far.
"Although I don't condone heating up fish in the microwave because I can see why everyone would be upset, I don't think it warrants pulling a firearm," Devine said.
There is clearly broad opposition to people who microwave fish at the office.
