Yellowstone tourons, AKA tourist/morons, regularly get stomped, gored, and launched into the air by bison when disregarding the rules and disrespecting wildlife. In a rare turn of events, a man who, by all accounts, did nothing wrong was tossed up into the air by an agitated bison.
A former Army combat photographer captured a different kind of battle when a bison stomped into his campground. According to Cowboy State Daily, Mike McLeod began recording after the bull ran at some children, who quickly got to safety. In the video, you can see a man and his grandson walking by as the bison rolls around on the ground. They appear to be at least 25 meters away, the distance recommended by the National Park Service.
When the bison gets up, the two immediately move farther away and take cover in some trees. A truck drives by, apparently agitating the bison, which runs at the truck, switching its target to a small tree, then to the pair, chasing them aggressively. They do an admirable job of evading the angry animal, but the bison catches the older man out in the open and sends him airborne with a flip of its head.
McLeod stopped recording at that point and joined other park visitors in chasing the bison away and calling for help. Mating season for Yellowstone's bison usually starts in late July, but based on its behavior, this bull may be getting a head start over his competition.
