Lists of corrupted CDs

Worried about your computer being corrupted by a rootkit or other malware on an audio CD? Here are a couple lists of corrupt discs that have been infected with music-industry malware. Don't buy these discs if you value your PC.

# "Strangers" by Ed Harcourt: Reported corrupt as supplied by CD-WOW, with a warning on the packaging. Refuses to play in a Quad 77 CD player and a Sony DVD player. Only 4 of the 12 tracks will play on a Mac. No tracks could be copied using Roxio on a PC, although they would play. The only normal CD player that the tester could find that would play the disc was an old Cambridge Audio CD player. Hmmm, a nearly totally useless round silver piece of plastic — great.

# "You've Gotta Go There To Come Back" by Stereophonics: Suspected corrupt in the UK. This disc has problems playing on a Marantz 6000SE CD player.

# "The Collection" by Talk Talk, "Oh, What a Carry On" by various artists, "Karaoke Kylie" by New World Orchestra, "The Glen Campbell Collection" by Glen Campbell, "Country Standards" by Glen Campbell, "Country Standards" by Faron Young, "Country Standards" by Kenny Rogers: These EMI Gold discs are all reported corrupt in the UK, with warnings if you know where to look. Some of the cover images on Amazon UK also show the CC warnings, although there isn't always a warning in the accompanying web-site text.
