LSD returns to clinical psychology research

For the first time in more than 40 years, scientists ran a trial of LSD-assisted psychotherapy. The subjects were 12 patients dealing with the anxiety surrounding life-threatening illnesses. The results were favorable and suggest that someone should try to replicate the results in a larger trial. Another interesting bit here: The placebo was actually a much, much lower dose of LSD, instead of sugar pill. So you were either a little loopy or really, seriously tripping, which seems like a good way to keep the subjects blind to whether they'd received the treatment or not. Anxiety levels went down for those who got the full dose. Those who got the placebo dose saw their anxiety levels rise.
