The Art of Home – The process of turning a novel into an animated feature

The Art of Home, released today, is the companion book for the upcoming DreamWorks Animation movie Home, due in theaters March 27, 2015.

The movie is based on the best-selling children's book The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex, about a cute little alien misfit named Oh who lands on Earth and forms an unlikely friendship with a 12-year-old girl named Tip. Together the two learn to understand and appreciate the value of family, friendship, and love while dealing with the perils and pitfalls on Earth.

This collectible book walks the reader through the process of turning a novel into an animated feature. The Art of Home has artwork, sketches, and details about the three main "worlds" of the movie: The Boov (aliens), The Humans, and The Gorg (the main antagonist). I loved the inside scoop from the film's director, the art director, the many animators, and the movie's voice-over actors.

If you see the movie first and then get the book, or get the book first and then see the film, either way this book is a perfect accompaniment.
