Vultures halt "body farm" plans

Texas State University was planning a forensic research facility for the study of decomposing bodies, but apparently there's some risk that vultures attracted by the bodies might hit in-flight planes using the nearby airport. The body farm would host six to nine bodies, partially buried or in cages to protect them from scavengers. From

"There's a lot of people who don't want it their backyard, and that's certainly understandable," Mark Hendricks, a university spokesman, said today.

"It's a controversial project, there's no doubt about it."

University officials said they would look for other possible sites for the project.
