Springfield, Illinois Mayor Mike Houston naively gave Cobra Commander a key to the city. I hope Springfield never needs G.I. Joe's help because they'll be S.O.L.
"Springfielders near and far, I accept your mayor's generous gift," Cobra Commander said. "And let it be known that I, too, bring a gift for every man, woman and child of this city that is so near and dear to my heart; an invitation to join with me. Join Cobra!"
The State Journal-Register newspaper reports that this is all a publicity stunt for the upcoming GI Joe Convention in the city, but we all know that's just more propaganda spread by Cobra.
