I absolutely love my Roku player. Their simplest player, the Express is now $29.
After recently comparing with the Apple, Google and Amazon TV devices I have, again, happily stuck with the Roku! Roku's "channel" based content system makes it easy for me to have access to everything I'd like without subscriptions for cable. I replaced over $125/mo worth of satellite service with my Netflix and Hulu accounts.
Roku's 2017 Express displays at 1080p and has access to nearly all the same features as the other models. The dirt cheap Express doesn't support voice searching, and won't handle the 4k and UltraHD resolutions. If you have a 1080p tv, and don't like talking to electronics, you are golden.
My favorite feature, which I understand other vendors now emulate, is Roku's ability to search all your available sources of video and tell you where to find what you are looking for. I watch a lot of old and obscure stuff, Roku makes that easier.

Remember the guy who rigged up his first-gen Roku to an old black-and-white TV to watch The Twilight Zone? Well, that “guy” is my artist pal Josh Ellingson and he’s taking his viral moment to the next level. He’s created glow-in-the-dark enamel pins of his Roku-enabled 1975 General Electric model 12XB9104V TV. That’s cool on […]
Following up on our earlier story about Roku re-platforming Alex Jones and Infowars, it looks like Roku got so much criticism from users, they’ve reversed course and will remove the Infowars app.
I hate to travel, but Roku’s Streaming Stick lets me take my home TV viewing experience with me. While we’ve tried AppleTV, Xbox One, and a Google Chromecast stick, my daughter and I both prefer Roku. We’ve got all the apps we like loaded, and our profile’s and linked devices keep everything current. The stick […]
There was already enough concern about the healthy state of our drinking water before COVID-19. And while there’s no evidence that the coronavirus has ever been detected in the water supply, the general sense of fear surrounding any type of contamination is obviously at a fever pitch everywhere. Contaminants like lead, chromium, arsenic, copper, mercury, […]
Allergies are brutal, affecting about 30 percent of all American adults. While many only saddle sufferers with mild irritations like coughing, sneezing, a runny nose or watering eyes, some symptoms can be even more intrusive and significantly more painful. Sinus pressure is one of those unholy side effects, causing a pain that can stretch from […]
“I probably use my chef’s knives more than any other tool in the kitchen.” – Bobby Flay, celebrity chef Cooking at home has taken on a whole new life in the wake of COVID-19, and even with restaurants slowly reopening across the US, there’s heavy reason to suspect that more of us preparing more meals […]
