This chart reveals that dollar stores are more expensive than other stores

Even though everything in a dollar store costs a dollar, it doesn't mean you're getting a deal. The Hustle compared the cost of different items (toilet paper, deodorant, Sharpie pens, toothpaste, etc.) at Dollar Tree, Target, Walmart, and Costco and found that Dollar Tree was the most expensive.

Dollar stores also partner with name brands to create smaller-sized products to fit the $1 price point. That $1 Old Spice deodorant might seem like a good deal. But at 0.8 oz., it's less than one-third the size of the standard 3 oz. stick and on a per-unit basis, it's significantly more expensive than the larger-sized offerings at other retailers.
