Zerowriter Ink: sleek e-ink typewriter

The Zerowriter Ink is another focus-writing gadget featuring a mechanical keyboard, e-ink screen, and no distracting apps or features beyond simple word-processing tools. Similar to the Freewrite Alpha but with a more minimalist look and a lower price tag, it's reportedly shipping now after a successful crowdfunding campaign. [via Goodreader]

It has a 5.2" Inkplate Gen 2 display (i.e. "no perceptible lag while you're typing"), 61-key keyboard with Kailh Choc Pro Red low-profile switches (hot-swappable; I'd want the whites for a clicky time), instant-on user experience, microSD and USB-C with "weeks of daily use on a single charge" and open-source software should you want some feature it doesn't have and the nous to add it.

It's 300 mm x 195 mm x 15 mm (12″ x 7.5″ x 0.6″), a little smaller than the Freewrite Alpha and 13-inch ultraportables like the MacBook Air.

I like that the keycaps are typeset in Gorton, or something pleasantly similar, for that classic typewriter style. (Marcin Wichary: "The hardest working font in Manhattan.") I like the apparent simplicity of the housing, too, which suggests one might make custom ones (out of wood, for example) with relative ease.

When you're done drafting, your .txt files will be ready for you to bring them over to a word processor for additional editing, formatting, and revision.
