GOP congressman John Rutherford praises Operation "Epic Furry"

Congressman John Rutherford, representing Florida's fifth district since 2017, is a standard-issue contemporary Republican: an elderly, gray-haired former sheriff's deputy, firmly aligned with Donald Trump. When he announces his love for "Epic Furry," then, the internet takes note.

"The Iranian regime has set the table for Operation Epic Furry through their forty-seven years of state sponsored terrorism," Rutherford said in a press release posted to his official House website [archive.org] titled "Rutherford Statement on Operation Epic Furry."

The repetition of the error in the quote as well as the headline is what really pulls the room together. He meant, of course, to praise Operation Epic Fury, the name given by the Department of Defense to the U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign in Iran that has so far taken the lives of Ayatollah Khamenei and some 140 schoolchildren, among others.

Or did he? Just as some days see decades of history, some events may awake unexpected parts of oneself.

"Incredible stuff from the stupidest timeline," writes Erin Gallagher on social media.

"Epic Furry"

In response to his remarks, people on the internet are offering various fursonas for Congressman Rutherford to take on. Others are not so amused, though, including Starfleet communications officer (and actual epic furry) Lt. M'Ress.
