This nostalgia-inducing collection of photos shows payphones that still exist in the United States. While hard to come by nowadays, there are still some beautiful payphone booths scattered around America. While many of them are out of service, they're relics of a time when everyone carried quarters instead of an iPhone as a means to communicate with others.
Some of the payphones in these photos have been wonderfully repurposed. Some are filled with plants now, while another has a life-sized Superman doll standing inside of it. My favorite is #3, which is a hand-carved, folk-art pay phone with a wooden shell as the receiver.
From Rolandopujol:
"I pull over for payphones. They are increasingly rare, but one that won't be going anywhere is in Prairie Grove, Arkansas — I took a massive detour to photograph this Airlight Outdoor Telephone Booth from 1959 for my book, The Great American Retro Road Trip."
