Trump fires Pam Bondi as attorney general

Pam Bondi is out as attorney general, replaced for now by Deputy AG Todd Blanche, according to CNN.

Trump's frustration ran on two tracks. The first was the Epstein file situation. On Fox News in February 2025, Bondi told viewers, "an Epstein client list is sitting on my desk right now to review." The DOJ later said no such list existed; Bondi said she had meant the general pile of Epstein-related paperwork, not a specific client list. Trump's inner circle viewed those comments as reinforcing the perception that officials were withholding Epstein material from public view. The second: Trump wanted more prosecutions of political opponents. Indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York AG Letitia James were both voided by a judge who found that the lead prosecutor had been serving illegally.

Bondi was told she'll be offered a different role — Trump floated a judicial appointment in their conversation on Wednesday. Sources told CNN she had been privately asking associates in recent days whether she was actually at risk of losing her position — suggesting she didn't have a firm read on where she stood.

EPA administrator Lee Zeldin is being considered to permanently replace Bondi, sources said, along with other candidates still under consideration.
