An Iowa man faces up to 10 years in prison after he allegedly threw a ninja star at a woman in Independence, writes Michael Hohenbrink at the Oelwein Daily Register.
A Buchanan County deputy responded to a domestic call on the 200 block of 9th Ave. SE around 8:18 p.m. May 25. According to the officer's report, Christopher Lee Verlon White, 36, shoved a woman into a bedroom, held a buck knife to her throat, then hurled the throwing star at her while she was in a bathroom. White is charged with going armed with intent and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, both felonies. He has prior Iowa convictions, including a 2019 domestic abuse assault, and was sentenced in January to five years for a drug violation — a term the court suspended, freeing him less than 90 days before the new charges. Bail was set at $15,000 with a no-contact order, which he reportedly violated hours later.
Further complicating the case, the day after White's arrest, the suspect allegedly used another man's phone to text the victim. She subsequently provided screen shots to law enforcement of the text messages allegedly sent by White to her in violation of the no-contact order by the judge.
Rampant Ninja related crimes these days. The British are especially upset about that sort of thing. Throwing stars are illegal to possess in several states, including New York and California. The black and white of Iowa law seems to be that it's legal to possess, but not to concealed-carry. Threatening and assaulting people, though, is illegal everywhere.
