Filmmaker Robert Eggers has mastered two things: painstakingly accurate period horror and employing Willem Dafoe. Werwulf, the next entry in his years-spanning efforts to apparently adapt every classic folklore monster ever, looks to be a shining example of both.
Crunched aspect ratio? Film grain? Spooky crust on everything? Prosthetic teeth? That's a Robert Eggers joint, alright, and I will be seated.
No glimpses of the werewolf itself in this trailer, though, which is a shame — I was hoping to rank it on the Harry Potter to Van Helsing scale of werewolf hotness. Hopefully we'll see more before the movie hits theaters this Christmas. What a present.
