The original Rattler (see video) at Six Flags Fiesta Texas opened in 1992 and was once one of the biggest wooden roller coasters in the country. In this wild old video, you can see the tracks bend and wobble as the coaster sped along. It was loud, fast, and famously intense, with big drops and a rough, rattling ride that gave it its name. At the time, it was the park's headline thrill attraction.
Over the years, the ride became known less for excitement and more for how rough it had gotten. The wooden track aged into something that shook riders hard through turns and dips, turning what was once thrilling into something many people found uncomfortable. Still, it stayed a memorable part of early Fiesta Texas history.
In 2013, the coaster was transformed into the Iron Rattler, a hybrid steel-and-wood redesign that reused parts of the original structure. The new version smoothed out the ride while adding a dramatic quarry drop and steeper, faster elements. It kept the spirit of the original but made it much more modern and rideable.
