    He’s in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame…
He wrote We are the World & several other great songs

Yah I agree. Michael did write a lot of his songs. You obviously haven’t read anything about him. He did not need people like you around him. He was such a loving, caring and compassionate person, and did not deserve half the things that were written about him. People like you would write anything just to make a few bucks. Just because you don’t know someone personally doesn’t mean you have the right to discredit them.
Michael, I hope you are at peace now. Sing and dance with the angels.

    These are great. Thanks!
Though it’s not MJ, I thought I’d throw my 2 cents in with my group Sock Monkey’s acoustic tango-esque cover of NIN’s Closer:

“you are left with the original songwriting that really he should be remembered for – pure, simple and brilliant, even at a very young age.”

I keep reading how great MJ’s songwriting was… except he didn’t write these songs!Tom Bahler wrote this song about Karen Carpenter, after she split with him because he’s fathered a child by another woman. Willie Nelson covered it as well, as did Patti LaBelle. Do people think they were “brilliant’ for writing this song too?

Is there any great song that MJ actually wrote himself? He was a performer – a great dancer and a singer – and should be remembered as such. Not ascribed talents he didn’t have.

Tuck Andress’s version of Man in the Mirror is a classic, from one of the pioneers of virtuoso acoustic covers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLFjk0KXjIk

Thank you very much for this post. It is very touching to see somebody diving into the song.

Can people who doubt MJ never wrote any of his songs PLEEEEZE do their RESEARCH before they put their sticky fingers on the key board! No he didn’t write all of them but he did write a huge majority of them!

It’s misinformed crap like that the tabloids really love and people not in the know will just eat it up!

David Ryan Harris’ “The Way You Make Me Feel” should DEFINITELY be included on any list of the best tributes to MJ.

Mike wrote a lot of good songs himself. For example:

Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough
    Wanna Be Startin’ Something
    Beat It
    Billie Jean

And that’s just off his first two big albums. I believe he wrote some of the later Jackson 5 songs too (Ben?) I’m sure there were more, but those right there would be a hall of fame career for most songwriters…

He was still a freak, but then again, aren’t we all?

How can they not have Gareth Pearson’s Thriller arrangement on their list? He’s one of the best young guitarists in the world!
