Eugene based Ninkasi Brewing’s Holiday Ale is called Sleigh’r (slayer like font, Santa in sleigh doing the devil horns). Should bring to xmas at this house.

Intelligent marketing! Now that I got a taste of the awesomeness of Slayer, I feel completely inclined to buy one of their albums and- OH, WAIT.

Completely awesome. I so want to do this. I live in a quiet neighborhood in Raleigh, mostly older folks (and these days, they’re really getting up there for me to call them older). I can just picture the visits I’d get in the morning.

Ah, why can’t people ever use their own stuff?

There’s a dude called “ghostrid3″ who’s trying to snake credit for the video (uploading it as his own) over on his channel. Since the dude’s daughter’s channel has vid of three other light displays done on the house, it’s pretty much blatant rip off, but oven though she (and others) called him on it. It’s still up. Kid sounds frustrated.

    Think I’ll let Mister Ghostrid3 know how I feel…

Please take into account that the original video is blocked here in Germany (thank you very much, Sony Music). Without this re-upload, I wouldn’t have been able to see this at all.

  18. Wally Ballou says:

It –would– be fun to road trip this.

It might be less fun to be the next door neighbor….

It might be less fun to be the next door neighbor….

IIRC, the sound was transmitted on low-power FM radio rather than being blasted out loud into the neighbourhood. So all the neighbours would really be bothered by would be the flashing lights.

  19. user23 says:

q: fuckin’ slayer christmas lights, how do they work?

a: they are the syncopated, burning souls of christians…and if you drop them on the moon, they fall.

amazing light display, excellent music. Glad I’m not a neighbor ;)

  20. catgrin says:

P.S. The link from AOTS has been corrected, so people are now being directed to the owner’s vid. YouTube took no action.

And did I fail to mention that this was sparkly and LOUD in all the right ways? : )

    SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to be this guy’s neighbor. We could listen to Slayer and drink beer and shoot guns. Hell yes. I could listen to Raining Blood over and over and over so loud it shook my house and never be bored of it.

  23. chilero says:

I wonder if he is concerned for his daughter’s safety given that she listens to suicide promoting music like Justin Bieber.

I admire his extreme tenacity to program this. I admire his taste in music as well.

If I saw this without the music playing, it would blow my mind and I would fall over in a seizure- especially at teh end, wow! That’s ridiculous fast blinking.

His neighbors, not hearing the music, would all be like, WTF????

It must confuse the hell out of them!

This made me smile real big. So wrong, and yet somehow so right.
The freakout for the guitar solo at the end is mindblowing!
Thank you, xmas light dude. Your hard labor is not in vain.

  30. Manooshi says:

Also, the dad’s comment on his video = FTW.

“P.S. THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS ACCOUNT SO DONT PAY ATTENTION TO THE GIRLY STUFF!!!! SLAYER RULES”

  31. ioksotot says:

The great thing about Reign in Blood was that back in the day it was on a casssette that was a duplicate on both sides…kicked ass on a tape deck that would just reverse itself and keep playing … made great fare for restaurant/cooking music….

  32. gwailo_joe says:

I like the red monster-house part at 2:40: Kept waiting for a huge red pentagram at the top of the house. . .in vain.

    metal. . .I remember it well. ^^/

I thought the light sequencing was not all that clever; it didn’t have enough structure related to the music other than being on the beat and changing when the music did.

Compare this. (Which, Wikipedia suggests, is the original in the genre.)

Most awesome!! I have been a Slayer fan for 23 years and I appreciate this dedication to Slayer!! You rock!!

  40. Anonymous says:

The fact that SlayerDad’s daughter is a Justin Bieber fan is probably his punishment from the gods for what he put his parents through as a young metalhead.

So what kind of hardware does one use to wield such awesomeness? I have a bunch of X10 gear that I occasionally automate with, but its response times are way too slow for this sort of action.

    • wrybread says:

I’m guessing that guy’s a professional stage lighting guy, in which case he’s probably using DMX. Slick how he’s able to dim (pulse width modulate) strings of LEDs, I’ve never seen that done before.

If you’re interested in doing something like this, you might want to investigate Max/MSP with a DMX controller. Not exactly cheap though.

The ghetto route that I personally would use is an 8 relay Phidget board (the 8/8/8) controlled by Python. But this wouldn’t give you dimming. And there’s way more than 8 circuits in the above video.

      • Anonymous says:

Might be DMX. Light Show Pro allows dimming, I understand. But light-o-rama is the way to get started. Of course, it takes more than a couple days to set up your sequences as well as this guy did, but overall, not too hard!

        • wrybread says:

Definitely looks like Light-o-Rama. Reading through their FAQ they even mention using a low power FM transmitter for car occupants.

Thanks for posting that, LOR looks super super super interesting.
