The_SUn_hacked_front_page_small.jpeg LulzSec claimed responsibility today for hacking the website of The Sun, another Murdoch newspaper and the sister publication to recently-deceased News of the World. Though the defacement--a fake story reporting Murdoch's death--is gone, the website currently redirects to LulzSec's twitter feed. More is promised: "We're sitting on their emails. Press release tomorrow," writes AnonymouSabu, a Twitter user frequently associated with the group. MURDOCH'S THE SUN NEWSPAPER HACKED BY LULZSEC [Dangerous Minds]

The Snowden Principle

  • Avram / Moderator

Can’t wait for the movie that eventually gets made about all this.

    • Rincewind

      A movie, you say? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFufrqhp0eE

The casting for Ed Milliband is superb.

    • The._.Joker

Well, you can bet Phil Dick already dreamt that movie.

  • IlluminatedOne

Just brilliant. Kind of reminds me of the scene in ‘V for Vendetta’ Where a mockery is made of that high-chancellor guy on national TV.

  • Anonymous

Great now those assholes can claim victim status. Great work lulzsec..

  • Anonymous

The host and 2 pundits on Sky news uk are calling the redirect “the lewis boat” (as in mispronouncing lulz with an i instead of an l)

  • elNico

Is there an official concern troll angle on this yet, or do we have to wait for personal data to be released for the “putting people’s life in danger” catchall?

Shame Sean Hoare has died too early and unsuspiciously.

Only one so far is that MonsterMan doesn’t find it funny anymore…

    • andygates

Personal data like all the phone hack dirt? Well now, that depends on the crew of the lulzboat. When they did some NHS passwords, they sent their docs to the NHS folks involved: hugely embarrassing but not a security risk. They were good actors in that case.

In this case? Redacted dox to Pastebin — drip-feed, for maximum squirm — and unredacted dox to the cops (if they can find a cop that wasn’t involved and doesn’t quit today — sheesh!).

  • Anonymous

Didn’t Lulzsec quit awhile back? I guess they got bored.

  • randomguy

    I thought Lulzsec retired.

    • Dave Faris

I think this proves that Lulzsec is Brett Favre.

      • Teller

        I see you working.

    • Lobster

Me too. So much for sailing off into the sunset. Guess they missed the attention and self-righteousness.

On the other hand their “planned” retirement came just as authorities were closing in and had already arrested a few of them. Maybe they’ll get a few more after this.

  • Anonymous

See, Fox and Friends’ weren’t wrong – they were prognosticating.

    • Anonymous

And LulzSec has now made NewsCorp, in fact, a victim of hacking – which will only feed the misinformation campaign being fought on their behalf, by their minions at Faux News, etc.

      This sucks.

Score one for NewsCorp and Fox.

      • Anonymous

No, LulzSec has made News Corp. a victim of hacking, while News Corp. has made innocents victims of cracking, there is a difference.

  • MrCompletely

they are retired. this is their hobby now. even retirees have to stay busy, you know.

this is my favorite schadenfreude in the last few weeks

  • boo

I note that LulzSec pays the same amount of attention to punctuation as Murdoch’s publications always have.

  • Anonymous

Oh good. I used to roll my eyes at them, but I’ve found that I’ve been missing their hijinks of late.

  • Michael Smith

    A righteous hack, LOL.

  • Drabula

Seriously. Considering how much the cops and politicians alike have been in the pocket of Murdoch I think it shines a whole new light on the actions of the Lulz Boat and others. When the guards and policy makers are protecting the criminals who you gonna call to get the real story?

  • MonsterMan

So when will more arrests be made so we don’t have to keep hearing about these teen griefers and their childish (tasteless) “hacks” from their parents’ basements?

It’s not funny anymore. The “lulz” are long gone.

    • tincansongbird

Au contraire, salaud! I’d say this is one of the funnier ones they’ve done.

    • Anonymous

It’s not funny anymore. The “lulz” are long gone.~ MonsterMan

Surely, you must be joking. The LulzBoat is the most hilarious crew in the proxeas. They are giving The Colbert Report a run for their money, perhaps Comedy Central should recruit them. I can’t get enough, I love em’.

    • querent

Lol. You can hax pentagon? O_o

Right on, kids. But remember you retired. I prefer my heroes free.

    • EH

Given the number of people who think Rupert should die in prison, i think the answer is “sometime in the future.”

  • The._.Joker

    Nobody’s spider sense tingling?

    • Morrigan

Are you kidding? The needle on my Weird-Shit-O-Meter has been buried since this whole story broke.

  • The._.Joker

    @ Morrigan. LOl. Sorry, dry Brit humour…. : )

    • Morrigan

Oh no need to apologize, at this point if it turns out that aliens are involved somehow it can’t get any weirder.

  • The._.Joker
