[Video Link] Mike Haeg made this "Marcel Duchamp Inspired Ice Fishing Tip Up / Auto Jigger." He says, "this auto-jigger harnesses the power of the wind. A silver dinner bell rings when a fish bites. Perfect for catching panfish and Dadaists." It debuted this week at Art Shanty Projects.

(Brrrr)

This performs a task. Duchamp would be scandalized.

    • Frank W

I think Duchamp would be delighted. Taking his “art” (which was a protest against “art” in the first place) and giving it a function in the real world. Full circle.

  • jerryeast

This is great. I especially like the “wind soundtrack” that accompanies it. At first I thought it was a 3-D tribute to Duchamp’s great “Glass” – though Duchamp is often lumped in with the classic Dadaists of the early 20th Century, he himself never considered himself a member of any formal art movement. And of course, in later life he was more of a chess player than anything else

the big question is: DID THE DEVICE CATCH ANY FISH?

  • Wingnut

Of course any fish that is caught must be broiled in a sideways urinal.

  • kartwaffles

This is what happens when scraper bikes go to Minnesota.

  • Senor Schaffer

Next time show it CATCHING A FISH, DAMN IT!

  • suburbanhick

    Ceci n’est pas un auto-jigger.

  • Mike Haeg

    Thanks for the post, Mark.

Alas, Le Duchamp didn’t get even a nibble last weekend. With the warmer temperatures this season, the ice is quite thin. For safety, the Art Shanty Projects are in very close to shore, and unfortunately far away from fish. I’ll be giving it another go soon at one of my secret fishing spots where I should be able to get a shot of it catching a fish.

But where’s the urinal? R. Mutt
