Ruslan Ekineev created what he calls "The Internet Map," a graphic that charts 350,000 websites from 196 countries in an clickable "galaxy." Each website is a "planet," size is determined by traffic, color by national origin, and the distance between planets is determined by how often users jump between various sites.  More at KPCC Off-Ramp.

I thought boingboing.net was hosted in Canada. So shouldn’t it be coloured the same as google.ca?

It’s probably based on the domain name’s DNS registrant country code, not the ip address. It’s called “Internet Map” but “Web Map” is probably more accurate.

This is awesome. Gonna find me some new sites!

I love love love how the most multicoloured, multicultural part of the map, is also the most shady, consisting of upload sites, torrents, porn sites and all manner of pay-to-win mmos.
