Things magazine has a nice gallery of 1960s Pelican paperback covers. The art is superb, and the books themselves sound interesting. I would like to own all of them!

Jacob Bronowski!  The Ascent of Man.  It’s truly a shame that he died at a rather young age (66).

    Oh and lovely cover!

  • GregS

Little known fact: author Peter Laurie happens to have the same last name as actor Hugh Laurie.

    • Antinous / Moderator

Only in written form. In spoken form he has the same first and last name as Peter Lorre.

I got excited for a second when I saw the author credit on the drug book

    Pelican books were just wonderful.

Golden age of publishing. Standing in front of a display of Pelican books was more exiting than the internet!

Yeah, I have a good many of these. It starts with a couple of casual purchases, 20p here, 25p there. Then you notice the spines look good together on the shelf.  And then you’re lost.
