Here's Shorra's "Death of a Cyborg," and it's lovely.

(via Kadrey)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Shouldn’t that be “Death of an Android”?

only if there are no biological parts, I’m guessing this one had real nose hair.

Perhaps it’s a Ghost in the Shell style cyborg. Full prosthetic body with a living brain in a titanium skull

        • Cynical

Given that the painting shares a title with the first song in the Ghost in the Shell soundtrack, that’s probably pretty likely.

“Death of a Cyborg” is more poignant.  Those stinking andies can go to hell.

Makes me think of Similo, a really fantastic short film from 2006.

Lovely. I do wish there was a larger version that you could see- I am not finding it on her page.

    Looks like a Biblical scene.

    “Can you fix it?”
“Sure, but it will take about three days.”

Cyborg Jesus suffered almost 72 hours of unscheduled downtime for your sins…

Do you know how long he is going to have to work to get his 5 9s uptime back?

There’s a lot more of that stuff here: http://www.bouguereau.net/

    I sing the body electric.

Looks an awful lot like the First mourning (Bouguereau, 1888) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_First_Mourning ;)

but it’s a nice twist, I take it, this is the first cyborg to die.

Wow. That is just all kinds of wonderful. Oddly, I am not finding it anywhere on the site linked and all of the other work there seems to be very different from this piece.

Is there a way to buy a print of this?

  • LinkMan

Here is the work on the photoshopist’s deviantART page:

Sadly it doesn’t appear to be available as a print.

    I also like this one:

Thanks for the feedback everyone and to those of you that wanted to buy it.  As has been mentioned it’s actually a re-working of a Bouguereau painting and was intended for the web and so isn’t suitable for printing.  It was created for this contest on Worth1000.com
