Yesterday Kottke.org shared a favorite Snoop Lion cover! This Dynamite Hack is near the top of my list...
Jason Weisberger is Boing Boing's publisher. He often does what he ought, instead of what he should. On instagram and twitter he is @jlw
Wireless restoration of sight to the blind (rats)
Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" played by 5 pianists on one piano, all at once
Ben Folds’ “Bitches Ain’t S**t” is at the top of mine, but damn, love this one. We need to get a re-cover, where Snoop covers their cover with his own voice in sweet, delicious melody.
Love the Gourds! Snoop Lion approved, even: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asrfBGkGsbo
Didn’t really like this one. My personal favorite is still Jonathan Coulton’s Baby Got Back cover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCWaN_Tc5wo
Which reminds me to ask – how many Wicket Men are there on a 43-man Squamish team?
This isn’t Snoop Dogg though guys its Eazy-E!
The embed is apropos the title, not the link.
The Cover of Gin and Juice by The Gourds is the win. Country…
How can Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine be ignored in a conversation about old school rap covers?
Gin and Juice (which I’ll forever think of as a Snoop Dogg cover, not a Snoop Lion cover…)
Baby Got Back
Fight for your right
Also don’t forget that the very talented Cheese doesn’t stop at hip-hop covers.
Richard Cheese is the motherfuckin man. Don’t forget his versions of Supersonic and Me So Horny, but the funniest to me is his NIN Closer cover (NSFW) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-teLIJEKCs
As for covers of Gin and Juice, Sissybar takes the crown. Sorry, Gourds fans, but its true. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDq2FGsEGd8
Jay Brannan – Straight Outta Compton. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x6uEMXAB4I
Gourds is one of the best I’ve ever heard. I literally have to hear that play song every few weeks just to get my fix. They pretty much owned that one.
I’m actually kind of a connoisseur of strange cross-genre covers generally. And there’s no denying The Gourds “” cover is indeed pretty hard to top for sheer infectiousness. But a close second in terms of being unexpectedly and kind of jarringly beautiful is Nina Gordon’s (from Veruca Salt) cover of “Straight Outta Compton”. This is tha smoove s–t!!! http://youtu.be/NG2EGOB9-lc
Vitamin Lounge does some great Eminem covers. Oh, and Grenouilles have a fun Low (Flo Rida) cover.
