Adam 12, season 1

Adam 12 takes us back to a time when Los Angeles, and America, loved the LAPD.

The cops were the good guys, the crimes often mundane, and we thrilled to patrol along with Martin Milner's veteran officer Pete Malloy and Kent McCord as new recruit Jim Reed.

A fantastic conversation over the weekend about early shows in the public service genre, like Emergency! and Dragnet led me to order this DVD set. Adam 12 was created by the Dragnet team, R.A. Cinader and Jack Webb, and set the stage for all police dramas to come. They used the same idea of real police stories, with names changed, to populate the script. This device gives a bit of a feel for what the curated list of common crimes were in LA at the time, but the acting and situations were more true, and less stoic or matter of fact, than Dragnet. I was addicted as a kid.

The show is now a window into the past, but still remains fun programming to watch! I am not sure Adam 12 will hold interest for folks who didn't live through, or near, this era in Los Angeles' development, but I am thrilled. Just watching the theme above takes me back.
