Hiker who finished first free ascent of Dawn Wall on Yosemite's El Capitan did it missing a finger

Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson recently became the first rock climbers to complete a free ascent of The Dawn Wall on El Capitan in Yosemite.

You can see a dizzying visual representation here at the New York Times. Their feat was the most difficult climb ever completed, by some estimates.

And one of those guys was missing a finger.

"I totally didn't notice but several people pointed this out on Twitter: Caldwell only has 4 fingers on his left hand," writes Kottke.

"He cut off his index finger with a table saw, got it reattached, and then removed again so it wouldn't hinder his climbing."
