In this three-minute video from 2016, the fantastic painter Lisa Yuskavage talks about her work.
The paintings she speaks about in this video are some of my favorites of hers that I've seen.
Yuskavage's approach to figure painting is striking and completely her own. There is something both beautiful and frightening about her characters and the way they are depicted. This contradiction is what draws me to her work. In the video she says of her paintings, "The light is almost always loving and the colors sometimes cruel."
She's been one of my favorite contemporary painters ever since I first laid eyes upon her work.
