One has to wonder how Capcom keeps putting out Resident Evil. Since 2017's brilliantly terrifying Resident Evil 7 gave the series a shot in the arm and saved it from the depths of schlocky self-parody it was rapidly descending toward, it feels like there's been a constant stream of them. The mainline series has continued to progress in tandem with a faster cadence of remakes that take advantage of the long-running series' substantial back catalog.
There's the question of the next step, though. The recent Resident Evil: Requiem wrapped up the main series' dangling threads quite nicely, even if that meant it mostly served as a long parade of "remember this?!" On the remake side of things, the next logical step would be tackling 2009's Resident Evil 5, which would immediately reignite all the controversy surrounding the game's initial release.
Once again defying expectations, Capcom has opted to sidestep the problem entirely. The next Resident Evil game will, bizarrely enough, be a remake of a 2000 spinoff initially released exclusively for the Sega Dreamcast.
2027's Resident Evil: Veronica is an expanded reimagining of 2000's Resident Evil: Code Veronica, adding a significant amount of new gameplay and, apparently, a creepy landlady.
