Big Think video: "According to Rutgers psychology professor Barry Komisaruk, some women are able to achieve orgasm through mental activity alone. What can their brains tell us about the neurological basis of sexual pleasure, and can these discoveries help patients who are unable to orgasm at all?"

Actually, this sort of thing has been done for a long time. What is interesting in the video is that there is active neurological research finally being done. I’ve helped clients experience mental orgasms for years. See http://briandavidphillips.net/category/hypnosis-erotic-and-sexual/ for a lot of material on this subject. -Dr. Phillips

Yeah, I used to have the female equivalent of ‘wet dreams’ — I’d be suddenly awake, sweating, with fluttering or throbbing sensations. I didn’t figure out what it was until a few years later, and I never cared to do it ‘on purpose’ so I don’t know if I could have.

Third the notion of picking the superior method.

And some women can’t control it.

  • bing bing

I knew a guy who claimed he could do it, too. It seems impossible to me but has Komisaruk encountered any case in men?

  • WES

I would love to learn how to do this!

      Me TOO!!

I have actually experienced this “thinking off” and it was a welcomed new ability, as I was newly off medication that prevented me from having orgasms at all. I watched the T.V. show and was amazed to find out that others experience this also. Lets do more research, because I feel that this is possible for both men and women. and its great for many reasons. Lets experiment more.

Or, if staring at shoes works for women, what’s the equivalent for men ? A Ferrari?

  • alisong76

Yeah, I can do that. I used to do it a lot more when I was younger, though and I’m wondering if the more active imaginations teenagers have have anything to do with it. I still can, I just don’t – what the other commenter said about manual stimulation being better is true for me as well.

  • hobomike

Do you think women perhaps evolved this ability to compensate for their lame partners?

  • Anonymous

    i can do that!

The Women Who Stare at Shoes

    I’m one of those women.

The day it dawned on me that not everyone can naturally do it hands-free was a very strange one.

(And in case you’re wondering, no, they’re not as good as the physically-triggered ones.)

This is normal for practitioners of Tantric yoga, including men, including myself. For men, or at least for me, there’s no erection and no ejaculation, but it feels like an orgasm. An orgasm that doesn’t stop because it’s not dependent on events in the groinal region. In my case, it’s a side effect and kind of a nuisance when I’m trying to meditate.

  • Chuck

Now can these women cause other people to achieve orgasm through mental activity?

If so, PLEASE tell them to stop doing that when I’m in a public place.

(Alternatively, they could drop by and introduce themselves.)
