Etsy seller Holmescraft's "Fibonacci" rings have beads in a 1, 1, 2, 3 sequence of great mathematical pleasing-ness. I want to see the matching chainmail that goes up to several thousand digits in the Fibonacci sequence!

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

It looks cool I guess, but the Fibonacci thing is really a stretch. There are thousands of sequences that start out 1,1,2,3… Show me a ring inspired by a golden spiral or actual phyllotaxis pattern. Now that would have a true mathematical relationship to the Fibonacci sequence rather than just doing it lip service.

Hey Cory, that link is broken — goes to an Etsy search for “fibonacci”, not holmescraft’s store.

You meant to link to this: http://www.etsy.com/shop/holmescraft

@gouldina #2 – look at the number of beads on each wire. The first two green beads are each on their own wire, then two green on one wire, then three silver on one.

  • gouldina

lilomar #3 – Yeah I can see it now. Doh!

  • Thalia

Fibonacci necklaces are way cooler. I have a long necklace that uses the pattern, with a different type of bead for each count.

  • gouldina

I don’t get it. I see the 2 and the 3 but where are the two ones?

    • Anonymous

On the left. Those first two green ones are on different wires.
