Artist Alan MacDonald paints whimsical Rembrantesque works that often incorporate modern brands, as though all those dimly lit 17th-century folk were shilling for Coke and the like.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Reminds me of one of Robert Klein’s best bits. He said if Neil Armstrong had been *really* smart, instead of “One small step…” he would have stepped off the LEM and yelled “Drink Coca-Cola!” to the tune of millions in advertising compensation. :P

    • IamInnocent

Some day no one will know what Coca-Cola is. Everyone will always remember who Rembrandt and Armstrong were. More so for the former than the latter.

  • nehpetsE

Wrong. Its more likely that one of millions of glass coke bottles will survive the apocalypse than a few dozen fragile paintings.

Most Italian renaissance art is just a branding campaign for the Medici corporation.

i know a similar artist from Latvia – Franceska Kirke. She had a series of works with Disney toons and some brands too.

This can’t be any good. Where are the doe-eyed waifs?

most of history’s great artists were shills. We just can’t read the advertisemets. For instance, if you see the duke in an image sitting with is feet on bolts of silk, it is probably because the silk merchants guild chipped in some dough.
