TheRealDuckie (and friends) is working on a complete, functional replica of Walt Disney World in Minecraft, and has posted an update to Reddit. The Magic Kingdom is largely down, with the rides all ridable, and working restaurants. Epcot is underway. The files are available as free downloads.

This project started on the Reddit Creative Server and was later moved to Redstonehost.com. It took us 4 months of work and over 25 Cast Members to finish. We have recently started on EPCOT and will be continuing the resorts soon. As each park is finished we will release another download. As always, these downloads are free. We seek no monetary gain.

Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom - Finished! + EPCOT started (w/ world download) (imgur.com) (Thanks, Dave!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Queuing take down notice in 3… 2… 1…

I wonder if they added all of the tunnels that crisscross the parks underground?  That would be extra cool, even if it would require rather intimate knowledge of the park.

I’m pretty sure the guys that work on this for 4 months straight are lacking in the “intimate knowledge” department

That sure is a nice theme park you got there. It would be a shame if anything happened to it.

“This world has fire and lava, so it would be wise to run it as a server. Single player WILL result in burning down of some buildings. You MUST HAVE some sort of fire protection enabled.”

Can’t one enable gangster protection just as easily?

The next issue of the DSM is going to include Minecrafting as an OCD subset.

Yeah, the real problem with Disney parks is there you are, waiting patiently in line, when all of a sudden…SSSSS. Boom! Damn creepers!

I was checking out the server tonight. Really good looking stuff. My son and I were logged in together, and we went from place to place on the map, remembering what we did in those places when we were at Disney a few years ago. There ended up being a few too many users, though, and the server kept crashing. I’ll be back, though – I still need to see their fireworks show at the castle :)
