Buy a $2,500 diamond and receive a free rifle from D. Geller and Son of Cobb County, Ga.,: "A lot of our customers are hunters, and it just seemed like a great thing to do." [WSBT]

    Upon reading the headline and seeing the jewelry stores sign (must have cost at least $.50), the first thought that popped into my mind: “they let you hunt with Hi-Points in Georgia?”

    Seriously though this is just a gimmick.  If the diamond buyer can legally own a gun, then he/she is really just getting a directed rebate/discount.  Its not like the jewelry store is handing out guns.

    Selling the problem and giving away the solution? Classic.

    There have been many “buy X and get a firearm” promotions in the US. Because the media are reliable and will stretch your promotional dollars exponentially if you do it.

      Yeah, wasn’t it Bowling for Columbine where Michael Moore opened a bank account and got a free gun? These promotions have been around for ages.

    I have more of a problem with the diamond than the rifle.

    Give the diamond to your sweetheart, in a case engraved with the message:
    If you ever leave me, I will gun you down.

    “Hey Joe, where you goin’ with that pear-cut 1.25 carat solitaire in your hand…”

    If it was a set of golf clubs, it wouldn’t be news.

    When I’m with a pistol, I sparkle like a crystal,

    Yes I shine like the morning sun;

    But I lose all my luster when with a bronco buster –

    Oh, you can’t get a man with a gun.

    Ironically, since the govt-hating red state of Georgia is barter country, the only “currency” accepted for this offer is a $2,600-value diamond.
