Spiegelman, noted as a historian and theorist of comics as well as an artist, collaborated with Johnston, who performs an all-new score with his sextet. Johnston's music accompanies the cartoonist's personal tour of the first legitimate 'graphic novels' — silent picture stories, including woodcuts, made by early 20th century masters like Frans Masereel, H.M. Bateman, Lynd Ward, Otto Nuckel, Milt Gross, and Si Lewen — and their influence on him. Spiegelman explores 'the battle between Words and Pictures', he smashes at the hyphen between High and Low Art in 'Shaping Thought,' a new silent comic drawn by him specifically for this project,
