Get Smart, the complete series

This weekend I'll be watching Max, Fang, 99, and the rest of CONTROL keep the world safe from KAOS …and loving it!

Focused on CONTROL Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, portrayed by Don Adams, Get Smart is one of the funniest shows ever made! Max is a good hearted, bumbling fool who succeeds solely on his blind self-confidence. Aided by his partner Agent 99, played by Barbara Feldon, the pair consistently defeat the evil organization KAOS.

Max had it all! Cool gadgets, tricked out sports cars, and the unforgettable shoe phone. I am greatly looking forward to seeing the Cone of Silence, where Max frequently confers with CONTROL's Chief. This show is a beautiful, fantastic send up of a post-modern spy piece, and everything from the sets to the costumes are a pleasure.

CONTROL and KAOS are also full of absurd and colorful characters. Agent 13 was always hidden in uncomfortable locations, and Agent 38 was a master of disguise. My favorite may have been Fang, CONTROL Agent K-13, the terribly trained spy dog. KAOS had their oddballs too, most memorable is Mr. Big, who was certainly not.

Get Smart was the source of so many silly catchphrases. "Missed it by that much!" and "Sorry about that, Chief!" will never leave my vocabulary.

Created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, this masterpiece ran near constantly, in syndication, during my childhood.
