Lou Reed "was a monster"

Like most self-styled provocateurs, it turns out Lou Reed meant the bad things that he said. A new biography illustrates a racist, sexist wife-beater with so little personal charm he would be regularly discharged from private gatherings.

"I loved his music, but you have to go where the story goes," author Howard Sounes told The Daily Beast. "The obituaries were a bit too kind, he was really a very unpleasant man. A monster really; I think truly the word monster is applicable."

His life was a compendium of people who he obviously should not have been that mean to, such as "his own little sister" and "David Bowie."
