Ted Chiang (previously) may be the best short story writer in science fiction today; though he produces very infrequently, he wins accolades and awards for every story.
The BBC has adapted Chiang's story "Understand" as a radio drama in four parts. The story also appears in Chiang's astounding short story collection, Stories of Your Life and Others (Yesterday, I unpacked my own copy, which has followed me for more than a decade and across the Atlantic Ocean four times).
