Wikitribune (strapline: "Evidence-based journalism") is a newly launched project from Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, conceived of as a crowd-edited, crowd-funded tonic against fake news.
The project describes itself as a collaboration between journalists and readers, "100% free and ad-free" so "no one’s relying on clicks to appease advertisers; no one’s got a vested interest in anything other than giving you real news." Instead, they are crowdfunding to raise the money to hire ten investigative journalists, with financing that will be "transparent" and fully disclosed so you can be sure that "most of the funds are used for paying journalists rather than expensive offices."
